CHESS
MAN RAY CHESS SET
A design classic, the Man Ray Chess set was inspired by games played with fellow artist and avid chess player, Marcel Duchamp. Avant-garde artist Emmanuel Radnitzky, better known by his pseudonym of Man Ray, was a leading figure in the Dada and Surrealism movements of the early 20th century. He created this stunning set transforming traditional chess pieces into pure geometric forms – the cube, sphere, pyramid and cone. In true Dadaist spirit, he injected one fluid form into the set. The curvy form of the Knight was taken from the head scroll of a violin found in his studio.
